The Lebanon Seventh-Day Adventist Church ladies organization entitled GEMS (Girls Emerging into Mature Sisters) and the BSMART News Crew, participated in a Breast Cancer Awareness Walk held at Jones Beach on Sunday, October 15th, 2017. The funds raised by the GEMS went towards finding a cure for breast cancer.

At the walk there were multiple tents of different organization such as PSEG that had their workers participating in the walk for Breast Cancer Awareness. P.S.E.G is the electric company of Long Island.

One of the people from GEMS who was on the Breast Cancer Walk is Dr. Tony Daley, resident of Laurelton, pediatrician practicing in Laurelton, member of the Lebanon SDA Church and a breast cancer survivor.

Through a personal interview, Dr. Daley shared her breast cancer experience. ” I went for my usual check- up in November of 2010. My doctor told me that I needed some screenings and through the screenings I was told that I had breast cancer. I was nervous, scared and sad but my family helped me. My children, husband, mom and church family encouraged and prayed for me.  In December, I had surgery and then in January of 2011 I began treatment.”

Dr. Daley continued, ” I believe that I have been a survivor from the start because while I went through all the treatment, I was surviving and also not getting sad. Being hopeful is what makes me a full fledged survivor. The doctors can not tell me that I do not have cancer. So every 6 months I have to go for a check-up. It has been 7 years since the cancer was there. It is important when you are faced with breast cancer or any illness to stick to the Bible, the hymns and songs of hope because those things help bring you through, keep you hopeful and knowing you are not alone. Breast cancer is not just a sickness but a battle no doctor can win but only God.”
