Kamala Devi Harris was born on October 20, 1964, in Oakland, California. Her father, Donald Harris was a Jamaican-American professor of economics at Stanford University, her mother, Shyamala Gopalan, was an Indian-American and a Cancer Researcher and Civil Rights Activist. Harris has a sister, Maya Harris, a Public Policy Advocate and Television Communicator who is married and has two daughters.

At the age of seven, Kamala’s parents divorced. At 12-years-old, her Mom moved the family to Montreal, Quebec, in Canada. There she attended Westmount high school. Afterward, she earned a bachelor’s degree in political science and economics from Howard University in 1986 and a Juris Doctor Degree from the University of California, Hastings College of Law, in 1989. After graduation, Harris worked as District Attorney in Alameda County, San Francisco, California. 

In 2011, she became the Attorney General of California. In 2014, Harris married Doug Emhoff, who had two children from his previous marriage. Her step-children called her, Momala. Their union produced no children.

Kamala Harris was elected U.S. Senator in California, 2017-2021. She is the first female Vice-President of the United States, the highest-ranking female official in United States history. Also, the first African American and first Asian American Vice President. 

Kamala gives us little girls hope. She let us realize the sky’s our limit. We can accomplish any dream if we are determined, committed, focused, work hard, and put God first.
