My experience in the Aim High Program was a fun one. I made friends and I was able to discover a new interest of mine, growing flowers. In the program we were able to do artistic things like painting and taking pictures, things that were enjoyable and also still being in a beautiful flowers garden. We were able to learn about composting and community gardens through people who knew about these things. In all my experience in the Aim High Program was one that I was able to enjoy with my friends as something fun and educational.
To know why composting is important to communities of color, we first have to know what composting is. Composting is a mixture of things such as food scraps and leaves put together to make a fertilizer. This fertilizer is important because with it we are able to give nutrients to the ground to grow crops and other plants. Composting allows the limit of wasting food and using it to create new food for people in the community.
Spaces like that Garden of Resilience are places that are able to bring together the community while also helping assist the community. The more of them that exist the more the community can come together. Knowing that there is a garden closer to where you live makes you more likely too want to go to it and participate in helping it grow. Adding more gardens can also help in different ways. More and more community gardens are steps to making communities of color more just and fair. The community garden will be able to help the people in its community by providing them with not only healthy food but the chance to getting to know their neighbors.
